چکیده

The temperature dependence of the coercivity of Sm–Co based magnets is investigated by magnetization measurements and model calculations. The Zr-free titanium-substituted Sm–Co material exhibits a positive temperature coefficient of the coercivity (TCC) above room temperature, a reasonable hysteresis-loop shape, and an appreciable coercivity of 12.3 kOe at 500 C for the nominal composition Sm(Co6 2Cu0 8Ti0 3). The samples were produced by heat-treating the disordered 1 : 5 alloy commonly referred to as the TbCu7 (or 1 : 7) phase. X-ray diffraction analysis shows that, upon annealing at 1165 C, the starting material segregates into more-or-less stoichiometric 1 : 5 and 2 : 17 phases. The TCC is explained by taking into account that two-phase Sm–Co magnets are of the pinning type, that is the coercivity is realized by capturing (or repelling) domain walls at 1 : 5/2 : 17 phase boundaries. Starting from a planar-defect approach, the TCC is modeled as a function of the anisotropy constants of the involved phases. The present approach yields a fair agreement between theory and experiment, and explains the existence of a coercivity maximum in terms of the Cu concentration.

Thermal effects on the magnetic properties of titanium modified cobalt ferrite

The temperature dependence of the magnetic properties of titanium modified cobalt ferrite is presented. The change of maximum magnetization obtained at H ≈ 2.4 MA/m between any two temperatures increases systematically with composition, which is desirable for applications in devices. Variation in magnetocrystalline anisotropy and coercivity were different from previous studies on cation substit...

Synergetic Effect of Dy2O3 and Ca Co-Dopants towards Enhanced Coercivity of Rare Earth Abundant RE-Fe-B Magnets

Low coercivity is the main disadvantage of RE-Fe-B permanent magnets containing highly abundant rare earths (RE: La, Ce) from the application point of view, even though they exhibit many cost and resource advantages. In this work, an industrial mixed rare earth alloy (RE100 = La30.6Ce50.2Pr6.4Nd12.8) with a high amount of the more abundant elements was adopted to fabricate RE-Fe-B permanent mag...

High performance Nd-Fe-B permanent magnets without critical elements

Scanning electron microscopy, and magnetization measurements reveal that as cast (Nd1 xCex)2Fe14B alloys contain significant amounts of a-Fe that can be dramatically reduced by annealing the alloys at 1000 C for 3 days. The room temperature intrinsic coercivity, Hci, of (Nd0.8Ce0.2)2.2Fe14B melt spun ribbons was found to be 11 kOe, which is ~32e~10% higher in comparison to that of Nd2Fe14B (Hci...

Effect of Fe, Cu, Zr, and Ti on the Magnetic Properties of SmCo-1 : 7 Magnets - Magnetics, IEEE Transactions on

The effect of Fe, Cu, Zr, and Ti substitution on magnetic properties of SmCo 1 : 7 magnets at temperatures up to 500 C were studied. As-milled amorphous Sm(Co,Fe,Cu,Ti–Zr)7 magnets crystallized in the TbCu7-type structure after annealing at 750 C for 2 h. A room-temperature intrinsic coercivity of around 2.5 T is obtained for compositions SmCo6 4Zr0 2Ti0 4 and SmCo6 4Fe0 1Zr0 1Ti0 4. The high c...
